Shtbx project
Picked up my '70 C30 w/Franklin Camper on frame, after driving by it, parked next to a farmers barn, for 4 years. Put about $1,700.00 worth of work and a lot of sweat into it and took it to Sturgis 4 years ago. It has been sitting in da shed ever since, drums all the way around makes for not a good stopping experience and I hope to remidy that. Picked up a donor vehicle yesterday, '80 C30,4speed w/granny,6 tires w/good tread and a late 80's 454 w/less than 40,000 miles.
'70 has 350/400, plan on swapping out 350 for 454, keeping the turbo 400, swapping out the front crossmember , dropped spindles/springs and a flip kit in the rear. Also has break booster but may use system out of '80 if possible. At 40,000 miles don't plan on doing much to 454 but may be motivated, depending on funds, to put rv cam, headers... Will be asking plenty of questions as I go along, this will be a first project of this magnitude for me. Will go a little slow this Wi. winter because the area that these 2 behoumeths will be in in not heated, I will have to build something around the cabs as I work on them. Thanks in advance.

Well, the engine, front crossmember and anything else I can use from the '81 for the '70 and then I will scrap the '81.

Re: Shtbx project
I hope so. had to drive it home, appx 50 miles yesterday, had not been used, other than moving it from 1 spot to another, over the last 2 years. About 10 miles down the road started smelling gas and could watch gauge go down, next stop before my 40.00 in gas disappered I pulled over and gas was spraying out 2 holes in front of fuel pump, hope to get better gas milage in future. lol

Re: Shtbx project
I quess right now I am not sure where to start. Both vehicles are in the shed. I have 2 engines to pull, should probable look into getting an engine hoist, and have to swap crossmembers.
Some have said to leave the cross member in the '70 and swap out parts from their. I quess I should probably start by taking the bumper, radiator, hood and inner and outer fenders off the '70, probably should also advertise the 350 before I get to far in case someone wants to hear it run, get it sold, do the front end, swap in the 454, with whatever I have done to it, and put her back together, or something like that. Sounds like a good half assed plan.

Re: Shtbx project
And it would appear, in one of my engine pics, that I have hydralic brakes on the donor, can that be switched over, without to much hassel , to replac my booster system in the '70 ? Thanks

Got the hood off today along w/most bolts off of fender and cowl. Goes a little slow when you are working alone.

Re: Shtbx project
Sounds like Hydroboost on the brakes. I have a 67 one-ton and a 75 is my donor, the 75 has hydroboost. I plan to move the whole thing over.

Re: Shtbx project
I have to believe that the'80 hydroboost, have pic of brakes in my first engine pic, is better than the booster in the '70. Good luck on your project.

Re: Shtbx project
Got back to her today after being off for a while, got the passenger outer and inner fenders off and pulled the radiator. Will have to pick up at least (1), passenger inner fender, and maybe the passenger outer fender. Noticed the base of the core support was rusted and separating, have a line on one w/battery tray, which is also bad on da shtbx.
