Is it NOS?

If a repair panel is made in the USA does that mean that it is NOS, if not would it still be better than foreign made panels?

Re: Is it NOS?

Hopefully I can get in contact with the seller before they're gone. Would they be well marked as a GM product, and is there any specific place to find 67-72 NOS parts or do you just get lucky?

Re: Is it NOS?

Any part that was made many years ago,is no longer available from that source, and is yet to be used is N.O.S. There is original GM N.O.S. and also any other. A Donald Duck orange juice can that has not been opened is N.O.S. But,as far as being a GM part the answer is no.They didn't make patch panels, only spares or parts originally used to assemble these trucks.

Re: Is it NOS?

Nos means New Old stock meaning that it was factory made by GM but they no longer make it.

So just fenders doors and bedsides, and things of the like are N.O.S., and not cab corners rockers, or floor panels?

Gm made rockers, so those could be NOS. There are some parts still available today that could be considered NOS.

Re: Is it NOS?

If you buy an aftermarket part and leave it on the shelf for 20 years it becomes N.O.S. N.O.S. is not exclusive to factory parts. It's any old stock item that is still unused. In other words,if something becomes old but is still new then it's "new" "old" "stock". I have some n.o.s. Christmas lights from the '60s...never removed from the package.

GM sold floor panels,I could get you a part#. But,good luck finding one. It may not be that any available were bought. Often,a part like that which was rarely called for (and huge) in the first 10-15 years after production got scraped. GM had cab back panels which would be the factory cab corner patch panel. Only the aftermarket makes portions of panels. On an 88-98 the rocker panel and cab corners are part of the whole door frame of the cab. That was the only way to fix a rocker or cab corner till Tri-Plus came out with patch panels.

Re: Is it NOS?

I guess to me NOS would have to be an OEM part. Either GM, delco, or what not. I can't see a made in china cab corner that is 20 years old as NOS. To me, that would just be a new or unused cab corner.

Ditto. As far as I'm concerned NOS is stuff made for the factory (OEM) or shortly there after to replace damaged parts.

Non-NOS rockers are only worth $20/side. I got mine for $15 or so a couple of years ago.

Re: Is it NOS?

The assumption is that N.O.S. is only factory because that is what we see and are looking for. There's a whole market for it. But,the word "factory" is not in N.O.S. What would you call a set of Ansen Sprints or Torque Thrusts from the '60s or '70s still in unopened boxes? They are now reproduced, but the original ones would be "new" "old stock". If there was a lot of old stock aftermarket found on the market we would have never dropped the "GM" from "N.O.S. GM parts".

Re: Is it NOS?

I refer to the older un-used rerpoduction parts as NewOldReproductionStock, and NORS parts alot of the time came from the original manufacture that suplied GM.

I think the term NOS, as thrown around by todays car/truck enthusiast circle is meant to represent factory offered, labeled, boxed & sold parts only. Mel

Re: Is it NOS?

looks like a TABCO rocker. 501 40 looks like it's $14.17 new aftermarket, but made in the USA.
