Tow ratings
Hi
I just bought a 28’ 1983 travel trailer and I am going to try to pull it with my 1972 Chev half ton with a 350 and an automatic transmission with factory installed heavy duty springs. I am having the receiver installed on Friday and I don’t know if this old truck will handle the weight as I have no clue how much the trailer weighs. I think it is between 5000 and 6000 lbs dry. I can’t find any tow ratings anywhere. Any help/comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks roid |

roid, i cannot answer your question, but i actually have the same question.
i have a 68 c-10 1/2-ton, and i was wondering what is the tow rating on it as well. i don't have any heavy-duty springs, unfortunately. how much do you think it will pull? anyone? if someone could help both of us, that would be great! thanks!  jewels.

6000# is asking a lot of a half ton...tounge weight is what will kill you. You should be able to tell when hook it up about the tounge weight...if it is sitting really low in the back it is too much. The truck will pull it BUT you should install a trasmission cooler and don't think about even moving it without the trailer brakes hooked up and working. That trailer will jackknife the truck in a second without the trailer brakes.
