Thoughts on this truck

Is a local CS find, 85 Sierra K1500, has had a GM crate motor installed, unknown mileage, probably original 700R4 OD trans, obviously needs at least a bedside.
$1500 is his asking price, I'm thinking if it is not a rust bucket it's well worth it, thoughts from the peanut gallery?

Re: Thoughts on this truck

Long beds are plentiful around here, I was sorta thinking flat bed though for some dumb reason. Kid says the 4x4 and lockouts and all that works great, ad said no rust, but on the phone he said it did have a few "small spots". I think I'll put $1200 in my pocket and go look at it Friday.
Not sure why I have been looking for a 4x4, but I have. I have this money saved up to start work on my 74, but maybe I can wait a few more months on that if this turns out to be an OK deal. Seems all the 4x4's I find that are squares, they want $4000 for them and they are really rough, been rhino lined or they have a 3' lift kit. I know I don't want another truck that doesn't run, that's a big fact.
I'll probably go look and it's a basket case inside or something. Then again, he said it is his daily driver.

I don't know Randy, Unless it's the angle the pic was taken the LF looks like it's pushed to the right. I'd look at the front end and frame GOOD.....

Best of Luck !

Re: Thoughts on this truck

definitely check for frame damage, it looks like all new front sheet metal so that would be a sign to me.

Re: Thoughts on this truck

Guy said it was his dads truck, and he has passed on. Also said something about his uncle was a body man and had done some stuff to it. At this point I've about talked myself out of it and I hope I find something wrong with it. I'd rather use my $$ to start my 74 project in the next few weeks I think.

I've just sorta always wanted a 4x4 square, but at least I have my 05 Z71 for my DD I suppose. Not like I need it, more of a "I have some $$$ and need to do something with it" thing. I need to block craigslist from my work computer or something.

Just add what you think the repairs will be to the price and go from there. Seems high.

Re: Thoughts on this truck

I would just save my money and use it on the 74. Sounds to me like you are procrastinating (big word) to allow someone else to get it b4 you get there. If you dont need it, why get it? If it were cherry or something real special and cheap, then I could see buying it, but dont do something that would make you regret it or stall your progress on something you are trying to finish.

Re: Thoughts on this truck

That's why I love you guys, you can be the voice of reason in my head when I have clouded judgement. I do think I'm going to just pass on this and get a plan together for the 74 while we start to think about finishing the 87. Two projects is more than enough I reckon.
