1979 chevy spindles question

i know that lift spindles are not being made anymore but i was wondering if you could use say a 3 inch lowering spindle and flip it over and use it on the other side? is this even possible?

just wondering since im looking for about a 6 inch lift with just suspension modifications and then add on a 3 inch body lift for 9 inches total for that prerunner look

please don't mention anything about 4wd or why lift a 2wd in here.

i have my reasons

truck is a 1979 chevy c10 lwb fleetside 350/350 combo, 4.11 gears, would like to clear 38's

Re: 1979 chevy spindles question

The ball joint tapers would be wrong.
(top vs bottom)
And the tie rod arm of the spindle,... would be in the wrong spot,... and the taper would be upside down.

Nope, won't work. you could try some 88+ 2wd spindle. I've thought about trying thembut not sure what to modify

Re: 1979 chevy spindles question

Swap the upper balljoint to the 88-98 balljoint.
Bolt in a (3/4-ton) 73-87 lower a-arm,... (which will allow the use of a 88-98 lower balljoint).
I'm not sure about the outer tie rod ends.
There's a thread on here about using 88-98 lift spindles on the 73-87 trucks.

Re: 1979 chevy spindles question

Looks like member MickMc did it back in 2009,... but that's where the thread ends.

Re: 1979 chevy spindles question

this has me interested.

I have some 78 3/4 ton arms and 88 spindles. Im gonna check it out. i didnt realize it was that eazy.

i guess the tie rod end could be re tapered to the next size. if i remeber ringht the 73-87 outer tie rod ends are pretty big, will will have to compare to a 88 spindle
