ok in my quest to get my truck running again i have found that my spark is inconsistent.

during cranking there is no spark. but after i stop cranking it discharges (mind you this is straight out of the coil) i have an electronic ignition conversion. the black wire is to the coil neg and the red is to the coil pos. and i just replaced the coil. so im thinking the module is bad. there is no resistance between the two module wires. is that normal. if someone has one they could test i would really appreciate it.

oh btw its a 71 250 inline.

How are you powering the ignition and is it a regular HEI or a pertronix setup. If you used the original resistance wire for the points coil it will not provide enough voltage to an electronic ignition to saturate the coil and get a strong spark.

the yellow wire from the starter has 12 volts on it which should provide spark for starting if it is still wired into the system, but after the starter disengages the normal running voltage is 9 for a points ignition.

i have run 12v to the coil and the pertronix unit. and still have the same problem.

does anyone have a pertronics unit they can test the resistance on?
or tell me how to tell if they are bad?

Here is a google page on testing the module and the coil. If you are running the original coil you will need the resistance but if you are running the pertronix coil then 12 volts should be Ok. Another thing to figure is the gap between the module and the pickup. Make sure it is correct or it will cause the problems you describe.
