Alternator question

How do you now if your alternator has an internal regulator or not? With my truck running with an external regualtor I have 12.5 volts at battery. When I apply my power probe with 12 volts to the blue wire at the regulator or alternator I have regulated voltage of 13-15 volts. When I shut off the truck and start the truck again it goes back to original voltage. Could I possible have a internal voltage regulated alternator installed on my truck with a external regulator installled? I have had the alternator tested and it is good. Replace the external regulator with new one. This thing has really got me confussed...............................any help would be appreciated......HAPPY NEW YEAR>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

Re: Alternator question

I could be wrong but I think the internal regulator alt has a flat plug with 2 wires on it and an external alt plug has a square plug with 1 wire on it.

Re: Alternator question

Pretty sure all the internal regulators look like this: The external one may have had two wires but was square.

Re: Alternator question

Well I found my part number on my alternator (1100121) which is a AC Delco (remy) I did research on the alternator and it is a 10si which means thats its a internal regulator alternator. Who ever installed the alternator installed a internal regulator alternator with an external regulator on the truck also. That explains all the problems but before bragging I am headed to my shop to check it all out for sure...................wish me luck......
