Angry I am one unhappy SOB!

I was SOOOO excited to find an original tilt column for my truck I couldn't wait to get it installed. It needed a new turn signal switch so I order one and wait for it to come in. I'm sitting at the kitchen table just a few minutes ago and I can not for the life of me get the damn thing in!!! I got it ALMOST in and then the first thing that happens is the hazard button assy falls apart. I take the switch out and put the hazard assy together again. I go to put the switch back in and same problem! Get it most of the way in and the part where the wires go won't sit flush. It's like there are too many wires or I have them routed wrong. I take the switch out again and the hazard button assy falls apart again and this time there is some chaffing of the wires. So I tape the wires up, put the hazard button assy back together again and try to install it again. Same thing. 3/4 of the thing goes in great but the area where the wires come together just won't go. This time, the hazard button comes aparta gain and I am PISSED!!!! I rip the thing out of the column and now I have to buy a new one! $45.00 WASTED!! I am so pissed at myself!!

Anyway, what's the secret to getting the turn signal switch in? I've put a few in before and NEVER had this much trouble.

Yeah I know! It's not really about the money although 45.00 bucks is a lot to some people including me. It's more about me not being able to do it.

Re: I am one unhappy SOB!

I feel your pain, I hate when that kind of stuff happens. I got some repair parts for my original one at O'Riellys a while back in the help section.

Sure hope you have better luck the next time.

I think I know of a place that you can find parts you need. I was just there day before yesterday.

Re: I am one unhappy SOB!

Just checking but since it is a tilt, you did take the outer collar off the column right?

It seems like every time I run into a problem like that, somebody says "oh, you need a special tool to do that!"

No didn't know I needed to. Which outer collar are you talking about? I searched this site and googled instructions and didn't find any. Can you help me out?

Re: I am one unhappy SOB!

You need to start at the base of the piece that needs to be removed. You should see a notch or something that lines the collar to the next piece down. Anyway you have to work that collar off. Mayme someone else will help you, I might make things worse........Jason

Re: I am one unhappy SOB!

Ok, I got the collar off. Had to use a gear puller but did not damage it. I think I see why people use the turn signal switches with the screw on hazard knob now, it seems like it would be easier to get one of those in. Silly me for wanting to be somewhat correct with the red hazard knob.
