Shock relocator on 2/4 drop? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hello fellas, i need some assistance. I have a 71 lwb and i recently dropped the rear 4"via drop coils/shocks. The lower bolts arent holding the shock in place at all. Would the the shock mount relocator be whats missing? EC says relocator needed on 6" drop. Im not sure whats wrong. Any advise?

I use them even on the 4" drop. However you should be able to mount the shocks without them. Pictures would help to see what the problem is. WES

the closer the shocks are to straight up an down the more effectivly they work//i used relocation kit on a 4"drop they gave alot better ride feel than when i hads thje stock setup

Thanks for quick replies! The shocks were mounted fine but the shock seems to be at a weird angle n the shock w/grommet slipped of the bottom bolt twice already. 2nd time it happend i put washers on each side of bolt/grommet and still came off. the shock seems fully extended when connected, should that be happening or should it still be able to extend further? Im hoping i have the correct shocks.

I made my own using that thread they came out great and wasn't hard at all to do

thanks for the link!! I will attempt to fab the mounts and if unable to do so then i will just order from EC.

@kacz81- how did you get the bottom mount flat? Did you have access to a press or did you hammer it out?

He used a presss in his build..

I havent doen mine yet. The hardest part is grinding the 4 rivits that hold the upper shock mounts on. (You'll have to do that with the ECE kit)

I used an oxy/acetylene torch to heat them up and a 2 lb hammer and 2x4 to beat them flat

I will attempt to do this on sunday. Hopefully everything goes well since it's my daily driver and will need it for work monday! ha Now that I think about it I should just start saturday to be safe! Thank all you guys once again.

You can do the lowers on another weekend.

The uppers will take the longest.

ECE recommended the upper mount relocators on any drop of 4 inches or more. Do you also have the adjustable track bar? I have both and I don't have any issues with my rear shocks. The ride was outstanding....when it was on the road.

Yes I have the track bar. I went ahead and ordered the kit form ECE incase I screw it up some how. I have a cousin with a 68 that can use the ECE brackets if I end up doing it right. Thank you guys for the info! I will have some updated pics up soon.
