Jus wanta vent a bit...

So i am almost in tears thinking about what is going to be done in the next few months... I bought my 1972 chevy c20 about a year ago (no snow last few years) and i love it. So this year 8 inches for about the last half of November and lots more now and coming. So my mom and dad tell me that i need a 4x4 and a toyota... I like toyota but i like my truck more, it doesnt make it any better that i cant get to our cabin to snowmobile in my truck, so it makes sense to sell the ol long heavy girl.

I dont know i just needed to tell someone about it cause it was not going to be my mom or dad, yea im complaining, yea this doesnt make sense but whatever man

Trade your 2wd for a 4x4 if you can find one who'd go for it. Or sell it and by a 4x4 Chevy lol Makes perfect sense to me

You don't want a '67-72 Chevy 4x4? Best 4x4s out there. If you can swing it, maybe find a beater 4x4 for a $1000 or so, just something for winter. Then you could have two old chevy's.

Re: Jus wanta vent a bit...

There was a time when people were able to get around w/o 4wd and only a few people had 4wds. All you need is weight, good tires, chains are great, and don't go out in the worst stuff. Doesn't everything get plowed in a small amount of time?

I hope u get it worked out for the best. But if you trade that chevy for a toyota, you will cringe every time you think about it for the rest of your life.

Re: Jus wanta vent a bit...

Good snow tires on the back and good skinnier tires on the front, along with some safely secured weight in the bed (3-400 lbs over the wheels) and you will be surprised on how well it will negotiate snow. If you are heading up to the mountains, you can always take a set of chains with you as previously suggested. I grew up in Buffalo NY and we get snow in the winter. We got around quite well without 4WD or FWD. The worst vehicle in the snow that I have ever driven was my Dad's 63 Ford Econoline van back in the day. All the weight was over the front wheels.
Probably a lot cheaper to invest in tires, chains, and maybe a posi than to change vehicles.

Re: Jus wanta vent a bit...

Back in the day, where I was in your very same situation. I had a 77 Chevy 4x4 SWB, but had to do a long commute on L.A. freeways. I was always working on that truck (it was cursed), and it was eating me out of all my spending money on fuel costs and parts.
Dad came out one night to the garage while I was rushing to get it ready for work in the morning, and said I should sell the truck and buy a Toyota 4x4. I at the time was pissed about that statement, and it eventually came to terms with my real life situation.
I bought a cherry 1983 Toyota 4x4, and have loved them ever since!
I've owned a bunch of the little 4x4's, and everyone of them were tough trucks. Well, except for the 87 4runner I owned for a while. It simply wasn't fun to drive for me.

Once you get out on your own, and are making more money for yourself. You can get another classic Chevy like I did, well my Dad gave me the family 4x4 Suburban.

When you are young, and still living under the parents roof. Living with a small income, you will learn to appreciate a truck that doesn't need special care.

BTW: I still run around in a Toyota 4x4, and I still have the 68 Chevy Suburban.

Just my .02
