350 SBC with Edelbrock carb
i removed the quadrajet from my sbc350 cause it was flooding badly, my dad had an edelbrock off of a for 302 that had lots of goodies on it, i had to use a spacer since the edelbrock butterflys would not work with the stock quadrajet manifold, the edelbrock had lots of junk in the carb, so we cleaned it out with carb cleaner and it ran pretty good when we got it on, but yesterday we took it back off to clean it some more and now it wont stay running and it backfires. I'm just wondering if that edelbrock is giving the engine too much fuel. It would be great if someone has has this problem and knows how to fix it, we think when we cleaned it it cleaned some gunk out blocking the jets. help appretiated, thnx in advance

I'd check for a air leak, spray some wd40 aroundbase as it idles and see if it picksup.

Re: 350 SBC with Edelbrock carb
well, i can't get it to idle, it wont stay running unless i hold the throttle down, we've adjusted the carb, and changed the sparkplugs, nothing seems to work

Re: 350 SBC with Edelbrock carb
sounds like you have a LARGE vaccum leak. Check the port where the power brake fitting is also check the hose for the pvc valve. It has to be the problem there also look at the base gasket. Jim

Re: 350 SBC with Edelbrock carb
Take it off and install a Holley or Holley based carb.
Not to be a smart a@! Holley has many more adjustments to tweak to your motors vacuum and air screws to get it to pure like a bad cat.

Re: 350 SBC with Edelbrock carb
alright guys i fixed it, i put the qjet back on when i found it, started it and it ran just fine, later on i'll get a holley cause my friends say they never had any luck with eddys, they used holleys, i guess the eddy was drowning my engine in fuel, or it could'ave been a major leak between the carb and spacer, but its fixed now so i'm happy, thanks

Re: 350 SBC with Edelbrock carb
To each his own. I have no particular issue with any carb brand, but I am presently running the Edelbrock carbs on my truck and my Son's truck. I tuned them in and they work very well on my 383 stroker engine and a cammed up 350.

If you decide later on to sell the Quadrajet I would be interested.
