Re: About to purchase 700R . What to expect?

I put the 700R4 in my truck and will never go back. When I get on the freeway and lock up that converter it is like a piece of Heaven in the old truck. I was lucky enough to find a rearend at pick and pull from a 72 chevy truck with 3.08's.
You are best off with the 88 to 92 trannys from trucks. Both of my 700s were built up with beefier parts. I used a Q-Jet carb and just got a bracket off of a carb van/truck with the 700R4 which I believe is 86 and under. Put the tv cable and it pretty much self adjusts if you use a stock GM one. There is a way to do it. You will have to get the drive shaft shortened unless you have the long tail TH350 then they are the same lenth. YOu can use the stock 65 crossemember and for the tranny. YOu might have to redrill for the holes in the frame. A 3 speed column will work with the 700 also. For the converter, you can just wire up a switch and turn it on and off when you want. It was nice to lock it up in 3rd when in the mountains. Made for good power up the hills. The are is thin up there. Ok I am tired of typing. Good Luck. I know if you go with it you will be happy if all goes smoothly. Don't be afraid to pay a tranny shop for the fine tuning of it.
