Screaming Edlebrock HELP!! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This one if for you edelbrock experts. I have a 350 engine with a 600cfm edelbrock and if I get on the gas good enough the carb will scream like hell as long as I keep my foot on gas. If driving below 60mph the carb is fine but once I get it going just over 60 the carb starts to scream. I've noticed it only started doing that recently as the weather got colder. What is it that I can do to eliminate the screaming sound period besides waiting for SPRING WEATHER!

oh and the sound is pretty close to what it sounds like when belts are screaming/screeching. that's what I thought it was so when I went to check the tension I was suprised to see the belts were fine. thank you guys for your time!

Are you running a stock intake as well? Or an edelbrock intake? If you have an adapter it might have a vaccum leak. Mine did it when I first put it on because I didnt tighten it down enough. Screamed like a banshee

there is a vacuum bleed on the electric choke mechanism. I've had one whine at idle before.

Very simple solution. Remove, buy a new Holley and replace!

Seriously had same issue and it was the electric choke as someone said earlier... good luck

if it sounds like air sucking in thats the secondarys starting to open up. usually if its a vac. leak it'll run bad. or try spraying belt dressing on the belts, mine were squellin once and they seemed tight, but i sprayed em with the dressing and it stoped makin noise

Hmmmmm! I was told I was drinking that there isn't any vacuum on the choke. Mine was leaking and making a whistling noise. I made a temporay plug to end the leak and she ran better! I will have to have someone read this thread!

What did you plug? where?

there is a vacuum bleed in the electric choke housing. its purpose is to keep the bi-metallic coil from over heating.

if you use a stethescope you can hear it. they can build up some gunk over time and make a more noticeable whistling noise. i am not sure it this is your problem though.

@72chevyk10- it does sound like air sucking. You mentioned it could be the secondarys, is there something i would need to adjust/clean to stop it from happening? I have a stock intake w/adapter for carb.

does the engine otherwise run good? (besides the noise) like no stumbles, bogs.. etc.? i personaly like the noise so ive never tried to stop it

i dont know if there is a way to or not.. mine isnt a "screaming air" sound its more of a "compressed air" type sound

and does it quiet down at wide open?
