degreasing stinks
tore apart the 74 fr. end suspension & cradle i got to rebuild & replace my 67 fr. end the last time i degreased years ago i used a solvent based and now find all thats available is a water based and was hesitent to use it, 2 1/2 gal. jug @ wal-mart was $18. and O'rielly's was $13., the brand i tried was Purple Power and found it worked very well even @ 35 degree's today . after scraping most of the heavie's off i used a number of different plastic brushes to work off the rest. they would have desolved in the old solvent based degreaser's and the cheap cement mixing tub was perfect size for all pieces but the cradle that will be a challenge to prop up. just a FYI for ya'll

Re: degreasing stinks
I just went through the same thing on mine. I still have just about every solvent known to man at my disposal but I made a conscious effort to go the biodegradable way. Firs,t I scraped off the heavies. Then, I used Greased Lightning from Home Depot and much to my surprise, I had the job done in no time. I'm not sure if it's totally biodegradable but it's got to be better than using gasoline Etc.

Re: degreasing stinks
I use Super Clean in the purple container at Walmart. It worked well for me and was very cost effective. It is dirty work but worth the effort.

Re: degreasing stinks
yes oven cleaner works great good for smaller jobs , cleans your wood box door glass the best, i would probably go through 20-30 cans to do a whole front suspension and cradle? so far i used 3/4 gal for about 1/3 of the job and its also bio-degradeable

Re: degreasing stinks
Treveiger.... 60's - 70's chevy trucks are plentiful in southern oregon i can put my hands on a dozen parts trucks today. another point when i degreased the torsion bar the metal had more original grey metal than surface rust icing on the cake so to speak
