ugh!
ok so heres my dilema, i leave for bootcamp on the 24th. well yesterday my dad walks in and says, i think your truck needs new bushings and ball joints. well seeing he will be driving it, do i buy them and install them, wait till after boot camp, or just let him do it along with the paint and body work when im gone? its so hard to buy things for the truck knowing ill be gone and wont be driving it. i think ill just wait till i come back to do everything i want to do with it, stereo equipment, lowering more, interior accesories and ls swap

Re: ugh!
trust me guys i want to help and love helping my dad with our projects, but here lately his job took away his company truck, and that was his only way of transportation to and from work. so now hes using my daily, which leaves me with nothign to be able to go out and get the parts i need yet alone start while hes at work. so its kinda hard to able to actually help.

Re: ugh!
do as much of it now, yo will only have a 10 days off after boot camp minus 2 days for travel to and from and then to your follow on traing. And believe me, you wont want to be doing anything on a car.

Re: ugh!
What's your MOS silence? I agree with Joe above, depending on your MOS, you might go from boot camp to AIT or be on leave for a week or two prior to reporting, where are you going for Basic?
Oh yea, I would buy whatever parts you need and if dad is willing/able to install the parts then cool, it is a small price for you to pay for putting your parts on, besides when you get back you can drive your truck with all those new parts.

Re: ugh!
Thanks for making the choice to serve. I was in a similar dilemma when I joined the Marine Corps in 1993. I owned the truck, but dad was going to drive it while I was gone. I pretty much got the parts or left as much money for parts as I could, and he filled in the empty spots and had it worked on while I was gone. If you can at least leave some money for the parts with a list of what you want, it will help your dad a lot.
Good luck in boot camp, just remember a couple of things. Dont volunteer for anything. Dont be first in line. Finally, dont let them learn your name in the first 2 weeks your there, otherwise prepare to push the earth out of orbit! |

Re: ugh!
Silence
You are going to have more money then you know what to do with soon. Your getting paid 24/7/365 and everything is provided for you except your shaving kit stuff. Get the parts for your Dad and let him get it done while your gone like the others said you won't want to be working on it before follow on training. Ditto on the do not volunteer for anything and you've never bowled in your life...so don't brag about anything unless cleaning bowls is your bag. Just crossed 30yrs in the USAF back in Sep and never regret a minute of it! Welcome to the Brotherhood!!!
