Re: Rear end conversion

No, I just took the rear end apart to powdercoat it. After I coated it, I reassembled it back together, using new bearings.

Re: Rear end conversion

well: yesterday at the autoparts the clerk told me, why not just upgrade the ratio, thats why i´d like to know if can I just buy the necessary parts to do that, instead of change all the rearend but 73-87 parts could be installed in a
69 rearend

I´m adding a picture of actual rearend it has, I understand that should be better open the rearend to see what exactly is. also I was thinking of I could keep 6 lugs and original

But the where the drive shaft conncts its it is not dead center of the axle. Its over one inch to the pass side.. Is it suppose to be centered or what? It's not just a simple swapping parts over, anyone can do that. It is the fact that the gears have to be setup with the correct backlash, preload, shims and pattern. If you don't the gears will not last very long and they will make a very bad howling noise as they destruct themselves.

You can have the ratio changed in your current rear end but I would HIGHLY suggest you take it to a pro to have done. I can HIGHLY recommend Mark at Pro Gear in Kearny Mesa. The only shop I have work on diffs for me.
