Tilt coulmn

I bought this coulmn a while ago from a board member. It was suposed to be a real truck 4spd tilt column. As you can tell it's not. So I've decided to sell this as parts because in my opinion the work was done poorly. The tilt mech. is in great shape and very tight. Everything worked properly before dissasembly, I took it apart to paint it and found the problem. I want to make it clear this wasn't from the couple of members that specialize in rebuilding these coulmns. $ I paid 375.00 . I feel the parts have some value or maybe someone has the correct parts to fix it.. $150.00 shipped. Thanks!

Re: Tilt coulmn

Has this been re assembled? One of our 1972 parts trucks has a factory tilt but had a fire inside the cab and one of the things that got messed up was the tilt. Outside the fire wall (strange) was not hurt at all, so all of the tilt parts out there are fine. Do you think the two could be blended to make a nice truck tilt?
Thank you Paul

Hi Paul, No it hasn't been reassembled. If you have a good center steering shaft and center tube, then You could make a nice column out of it. They filled the hole from the automatic shifter,on the inside outer hub, the center tube was shortened and the outer tube I think is a correct truck piece. The center steering shaft is my only real concern. They shortened it and then tryed to pin it with screws and broke them off. It isn't safe in my opinion, if you have a good correct factory lower center steering shaft you should be good. If you don't want it I would be interested in buying it to repair this one. Thanks Jay

Gaswagon, sorry to hear this, I just don't understand why some folks can't fly straight. If any help and only if still wanting/looking for a 4 speed tilt, I have an original (guaranteed) factory manual tilt column removed from a 72 sierra grande and comes bolt in ready for $500., its an "honest engine" guaranteed original 4 spd. column, no monkey business like most of them floating around these days. Let me know if interestedand I can get you some pictures, Mel.

Re: Tilt coulmn

Gaswagon, I do also have some factory tilt only NOS lower shafts still in the GM tubes if you wanted to put your cobbled up piece back together safely. I would have to check out what I have into them to get you a price, but most likely the better deal would be the complete column that I offered you above. When GM discontinued these factory lower tilt only shafts years ago, the price was nearing the $200. mark then. Mel

Re: Tilt coulmn

Your right Mel, that does suck guys do that. I've read on here about a guy on ebay doing this to tilts but never seen one in person. Sorry for your misfortune Gaswagon.

I appreciate the offer, but I've decided to use a original non tilt column that I have. I don't believe this member was aware this was done. Thanks for the offer and willingness to help!
