Welcome, scooter, this is a great site - pics of your truck?
I chuckled when I saw "Vega" in your project list, but only because I survived one years ago.

Welcome to the forum. Here are a couple of threads you might find interesting.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=366850

The 305 V6 was a very well engineered industrial motor that provides a tremendous amount of torque. It was designed to last almost forever. It is also very heavy (800+ lbs), gets poor gas mileage, and is very expensive to rebuild. But if you have one in good shape that runs well you should use it and see how you like it.

There are many enthusiasts that love this engine, and you’ll find many on the Jolly GMC site:

http://www.6066gmcguy.org/

And be sure to post pics when you can, we all love photos here.

Re: newb

Nice pics. Nice rides. My bro had a nova like that. Bracket car. Tubbed. Aluminum interior. Ran destroked 400's. Kept cracking the blocks between the inner holes till he used hardblock. Ran 10.0's at 3500 feet elevation on methanol.
If your v6 is hooped 283 is good or get a big 6. There's a thread here called tricked out sixes. I can't find it or i'd linky it for you.
Ask all the questions you need to here. We old guys live for it. LOL!!

Re: newb

The V6 will pull a house down, a torque monster, not real big on mileage tho. It will run forever! take good care of it, there isnt many around anymore in good condition.

Re: newb

Welcome, fellow Idaho member!! If you are looking for a inline 6 for it, I have one we pulled out of my daughters truck. Its either the 230, or the 250. I have to double check and verify it if I can. You can have it free, if you want to come get it. I'll throw in the granny four speed too if you are interested. We drove the truck home, then pulled the engine, so I know it runs. Clutch is about shot though.

It's a long drive down here, though.

Re: newb

HI Newb,

As you can see by my avitar, I too am a V-6 lover. I've restored 2 of these monsters. To answer your question, you can change 3 things that will give you better milage. The rearend gears, the carb, and the petronix set up. This will give you the best milage you can expect.

With the changes I've made, the milage went from about 12 MPG to 16/17mpg @ 70mph. The best change was dropping the gears from 3.90 to 3.23. THAT made a BIG differance. You can click on the link at the bottom of the post to go through my pictures of the various changes.

Hey Scooter
Looks like a decent truck for the money, have you had a chance to look at it up close? Just wondering if it had any hidden rust issues. If you should have any questions or need any parts I know where you can find stuff for it. Just send me a PM [private message] and I will get back to you I'm just over in Rathdrum....Vernski

Re: newb

cool, thanks for help or future help haha.

it has some rust in the lower front fenders like normal but nothing major. also if your standing and looking at the bottom of the door the rockers are a little crunchy but not on in the inside. easy fixes from what i can tell bodywork wise.

ya rathdrum is about 10 minutes from me. i am by walmart hwy 41
