another place to start with your speedo is...

remove your bezel again,
leave your speedo cable out where you can see it,
drive around and see if the cable spins,

if yes, then stick a small flat-tip bit in a CORDLESS (you want it to turn slow) drill and spin the back or your speedo to verify the speedo itself is bad.

if no, remove the cable from the adapter on the trans,
use a small flat-tip screwdriver to see if the drive spins (if it does the problem is in your tranny)

You can hook your speedo back up and use a chordless drill again with the transmission end chucked LIGHTLY and run it to see if the cable is not broken. Usually if the cable is broken, tugging on each end will pull out half of the broken cable.

Hope I didnt confuse you.

Something to note... your speedo will only work spinning it CCW from the back... the same way the needle travels, you can spin it CW from the back but it will not do anything.
