Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

I put a 700r4 and np205 behind a 500hp 406 in my 78 k20 and it was awesome. I did not move the engine forward but had the drivelines lengthened/shortened. I didnt actually think of moving the engine forward at the time. My truck had 6" w 35's and 4.10 gears and turned 2100 at 65ish on the freeway. I had trouble getting the shift points right where I liked them but finally was able to tune the govenor with a TCI tuning kit. I bought the AA output shaft and aluminum adapter. The only problem I had was that I initially forgot to install the seal on the coupler so my tcase filled with ATF.
I thought the combo worked really well and would recomend it even though the new parts from AA cost a bundle. Phil

Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

For those of you that have installed a 700R4 in front of a NP205 transfer case using the Advance Adapter "special" output shaft, have you had clearance issues with the front drive shaft and transmision oil pan.

I thought I had read a post sometime back that mentioned if you were running stock front springs (no lift kit) and used the AA output shaft, you would run into an issue with the CV joint/front shaft coming in to contact with the rear corner of the 700R4 pan.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,

Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

In the paperwork that you get with the AA output shaft it says exactly that. But I don't know if moving the engine forward 1.75" will help that or not. Seems it should. If you moved the transfer case crossmember back it just might be an issue.

Anyone else have first hand experience with this?

Thanks!

Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

I don't have first hand experience as mine has a 4" lift, but I think some of the bulky square body cv joints on the driveline could cause that problem. The 72 cv joint is smaller than some of them that I've seen on the later trucks.

Re: 700R4 and NP205 combo

Just like Ray says, mine has a 4" lift also. Is it close ... yes. Does it hit ... No. I have had my truck "articulated" in 4 wheel drive and the driveshaft has not touched the pan while wheeling.

Is it close? ... yes.
