frame strenghtening

hpw would i go about doing this? i was kinda curious about boxing the frame like what the new 2011 silverados have, i just want a sturdier frame for hauling

Box it, and add triangulated cross braces. What are you hauling, a house or something?

its mostly gonna be used for haulin hay,livestock, farm equipment, etc.

Box it or do whatever you want, but. Check your state laws concerning weight restrictions. The factory gave your truck a gross weight rating, I don't think the law will allow you to haul any excess.

i know out here in colorado you can haul up to 26,001 pounds with a regular license, anything higher you need a cdl

Yes, the 26001 lb deal is a federal regulation for drivers. My comment was directed towards the truck. Look at your vehicle registration, empty weight and gross weight should both be listed. The gross weight is the maximum your vehicle is allowed to carry legally. Are you likely to get pulled over and weighed? Probably not, but if you were to have a serious accident with a truck loaded with _____ it could be bad news.

i was curious about the gross weight posted on the vehicle since im gonna be upgrading to a beefier rear axle (probly the AAM 1150) and 3 inch rear leafs off a c3500hd, and since the gvwr on the tag is for the vehicle with the corporate 14 bolt and the stock 2 3/4 wide leafs, would i be able to haul more legally with a higher rated axle and leafs?

I'm not sure, it would depend on what your states DMV or whomever handles that stuff has to say. I'd call your state police or highway patrol and speak with one of the officers that does big rig inspections, he would know for sure.

I'd just hate to see you do all that work for some bureaucrat to say NO NO NO.

yea i would most likely just talk to the kansas state patrol or whoever is in charge of that out there, since im moving back out there after i get the truck built, it might be different there seeing as how its mostly agriculture out there, unlike colorado

The weight rating has a lot more to do with the brakes than anything. You have no business putting 26k on a regular pickup with normal brakes. Bigger trucks have bigger brakes. You will cook the brakes in a hurry with a stock pickup setup.

i was goin to upgrade the brake system to handle higher loads, see if i can get a brake booster off a 2011 silverado or somethin

the stock frame will handle anything a 1ton truck can stop safely regardless of the brake upgrades ya do .

well the main reason i would upgrade the brake system is cause of the newer rear axle, since im plannin on goin with the AAM 1150 and it has disc brakes, and higher capacity leafs, its also cause im usin the truck for hauling so i want a heavier duty braking system to help stop me faster
