Re: leaf spring helper

how much higher does this raise the load carrying capacity of our trucks? I've got a 500LB motorcycle that I will be transporting in my truck from time to time. I've also given some thought to towing with my truck...but I'm starting to rethink that since I doubt the little 250 I6 really has much towing capacity to it.

don't know how much more capacity it will allow you to haul or tow but i think it might help considerably. maybe someone with more info will chime in.

Re: leaf spring helper

There were a set of these on my truck when I bought it. The PO said he hauled (2) big block chevy engines with no problems.

Note: The ones for sale on Ebay are missing the piece that bolts to the bottom of the trailing arm. (See 2nd photo below)

The thing I didn't like about them was they are made for a stock height truck. Since mine is lowered whenever I hit a decent bump in the road these helper springs would engage and bounce you such that you would about hit your head on the freakin roof!

They were the first thing I took off my truck.

You can accomplish extra load carrying capacity, with no side effects, on a coil spring truck with a set of air lift assist springs like the one shown in the 1st photo below:
