The Way Chevy and GMC Intended..
Lately on this forum I'm feeling sort of on the outside looking in..
The vocal majority of the site seems to dictate that if you don't have a 5 bolt shortbed stepside.. lowered and bagged.. then you don't matter.. Keeping it within good taste and with all the humor that is due.. I know I'm not alone here.. Lets hear from the owners of REAL TRUCKS The way they were intended, built, and sold to be.. Lets see those work trucks, those quarter horses that made Chevy and GMC number one for many years. J.

Why does it always come down to an us vs them mentality. Just because some of us drive customs does not mean we don't like stockers. I currently drive a lowered 2wd blazer, am building a frame dragging shortbox and have been trying to buy a one-owner longbox 2wd 67. The longbox has about 90,000miles on it, no rust and just few a few battle scars. If I finally manage to get it I would leave it as is and use it like a truck.

If I had my choice, I would have one of each., But, not going to happen so I'll settle for what I can get. My Blazer is begging me for work... I think the only one of these trucks I couldn't ever own would be an all origonal truck.. What can I say, I don't want to ruin one with aftermarket stuff. lol

Whatever the vehicle, if you are a car (okay, truck) guy, then it doesn't matter. Different strokes for different folks......there's something about any vehicle, old or new, modified or stock, restored or restified, that gets my blood going. I don't go for the cookie-cutter look, meaning I want MINE to be just a bit different than yours, just like you want your truck/car to be a bit different. Yeah, mine are lowered. But, I've had 'em stock height, too. As long as what you do to modify your truck is done safely, and with safety in mind, then what's the problem?

Admitedly, I'd never build or drive one of these custom rigs I see here. I dig the ones that are restored to a fully original condition. But, I've been getting an absolute kick out some of these rodded out, bagged and dragging rigs on this forum. I'll always respect and admire a man's hard work and dedication that he puts into anything.

I didn't want to start a truck war, as I myself like all these trucks. My favorite though tends to be the long fleetside.. You have to admit, there's no shortage of threads, responses and subscribers to the Short Stepside builds. They're very popular, even to the point owners will take a perfectly good long fleet, shorten the frame and put a stepside bed on it... Tragic What I wanted to see was the solid long trucks of the full frame proud.. Owners who use them to their full and original purpose.. As a truck. J.

I my self own a number of these trucks, the hot rod stepside to the long bed 3/4 ton's and 1/2's as well. My dad is an example of this he uses his 1970 K20 4x4 Long Bed to plow his driveway and has been since he bought the truck in 2000 after it had been sitting since the 80's. I believe it was bought new and a plow was installed shortly after it was new. He had to replace the ancient plow but with the new plow its is an awesome truck. Somehow its still in great shape, now that he replaced the rusted floors and rockers the body looks great even with original paint.

I may be wrong, but I think what the original poster wanted was to see some original work trucks. Of course I could be wrong it seems to happen the older I get, lol.
I like all old trucks not just Chevy/GMC large and small and appreciate the work people put into them to restore/customize and work them. Myself I like the steppers better and use them as work trucks. I could not stand to have a truck so nice I would be afraid to use it. When I first bought a new '92 GMC K-3500 dually the first three things I did to it was have a 5th wheel hitch put in the bed, a set of nice SS running boards and a brush guard. I did this because I use the truck to pull flatbed trailers, haul stuff and pull a 25 ft 5th wheel travel trailer. The other two trucks I have are steppers, one short and one long. I also use them when needed to work. One is bone stock with a L6 and the other is slightly modified with a 454. I like the old iron because it reminds me of simpler times and when I drive them it helps to calm me. As you can see in my signature I am just and old guy. One of my grandsons calls me an old geezer affectionately, lol. I think this is the greatest forum on the internet and respect the fact that each owner of these old trucks can do with their trucks what they wish to make them reflect their likes. this truck is by no means anything that the factory wanted it to be but by god it will work like a dog and keep beggin for more, which is what i believe these trucks were "originally" meant to do! we thought about selling it but i think now im gunna keep it and do a 12V Cummins NV4500 swap!
