Miller 172 Challenger 220V Mig

Anyone using one of these? I know it is a bit older, but I found one locally with bottle, guages, and cart for 300 bucks. Seems like a good deal, but I am wanting to get feedback on it. I don't want to save a few $s just to end up hating the machine or wishing for the newer Easton welder set...

If you do have one, can you tell me if it is notched or infinite on the settings?

Advice/tips?

Re: Miller 172 Challenger 220V Mig

I had a 172 about 8 years ago and it did the job, I did run into issues as the years passed.. replaced the solenoid valves a few times.. but other than that just kept the maintenance up and it was fairly solid. I did upgrade to a millermatic 180 and its been a world of difference.

If it is your first 220 machine... and your just starting out.. 300 bucks aint that bad... it's a fine home based machine, just make sure you give it a good test lay a few beads down if you can.. run some wire through it.. see how she feeds, if you got gas see how the flow is etc...

I have one at home and it works great, I've run inner and outershield wire as well as solid core. for $300 it's a great deal if it works
