Re: 62 hydraulic clutch?
should be hooked up to the clutch "slave" cylinder. My '61 uses the same set up. Got all my parts from Rock Auto.

Re: 62 hydraulic clutch?
sixbangr's spot on. The line just goes to a slave cylinder which is mounted to the bell hsg, it actuates a mechanical lever to move the throwout bearing (i.e. not to be confused with a hydraulic throwout set-up like in some more modern cars and availabel in tremecs, etc.) Technically the slave cylinder could work on any trans that you had the hyd reservoir and mounting point for the slave for.
I purchased a 62 once also and was kinda concerned about it having this "oddity" of a clutch set-up from just 60-62. But the more I looked into it I realized it was a pretty cool set-up. sixbangr mentioned Rock Auto for parts which is good to know, I didn't realize they had them. LMC carries the clutch/brake combo master cylinder. Another good company to be familiar with is Novak - they have all kinds of slave cylinder parts, etc. Here's the link: http://www.novak-adapt.com/index.htm\ Second link shows a Novak kit that allows folks to mount YOUR set-up on chevy engines that originally did not come with a slave cyl set-up. http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_hcr3.htm Last edited by jocko; 01-22-2011 at 12:30 AM. |

Re: 62 hydraulic clutch?
It's not an oddity, in fact it's nice to use one and get the mechanical z-bar out of the way of the exhaust, etc.
I paid premium bucks to run a modern version on my 292/TKO-500 from Novak Adapters, see www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_hcr3.htm Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 62 hydraulic clutch?
Slave cylinders are available in at least two different sizes:
1 inch bore, as stock. 1 1/16 inch bore for easier pedal pressure, but needs a little more pedal travel. |

And if you need to replace the stock combination Master, and go to a newer brake master, you can use a small Wilwood master for the clutch. You can find on Summit, etc. Just FYI.
