NEED HELP! I've got a BIG REAR (drums)

short story:
ive got a BIG DRUM '72 c10 rear and wondering if i can use later model brake parts on it since i cant find new '72 big brake parts...???

long explanation:

'72 c10 rear and just found out that it has the BIG REAR DRUMS!
11-11/32 x 2-3/4" rather than 11x2"

problem is i need the drum and EVERYTHING inside it and i am only finding parts for the 11x2.... (only BIG thing i find is shoes)

i notice that later models are bigger and share the same 2-3/4" width but the diameters are 11-5/32 (6/32 smaller)

since i need everything... i am wondering if i can use everything from a later model as long as it is all matched up?
anyone tried this?

PO had put 11x2 stuff on it and didnt realize that he was only using 1.25" of his 2" shoes!!! yikes... i was like WOW when i open it up!

Can't answer your question, sorry -- but here's a thread from a while back. It may have some info that will help you find the parts you're looking for.

Re: NEED HELP! I've got a BIG REAR (drums)

thanks Stocker.
i read that one (along with about 50 others) before i posted.
im having a hard time believing nobody else has had this issue! LOL
mayne I'm the only one who thinks it is an issue! ;-)

i guess i could take backing plate to drum off of a 70's donor but i think i would rather just weld new perches on the donor! ha!

Re: NEED HELP! I've got a BIG REAR (drums)

You need to buy parts for a 72 Suburban to get the larger brakes. It's a glitch of the parts system that they don't list the 2 3/4 brakes for pickups, only Suburbans. I have been through this before on past trucks.

Re: NEED HELP! I've got a BIG REAR (drums)

I had written an article in the past with pictures showing the differences.

you can also change to newer model stuff, everything is bolt up look for a truck with the JB5 brakes.
