Re: Speed warning pics for (into69z)

I am finished with your gauge and here is a pic for you. It is without the needle as you wanted so you could paint it yourself to match your others. It has been completely disassembled and cleaned, greased and restored with the new vinyl overlay. Here is a before and after pic.

Simply awesome! Great job. It really shows your skill-set when you look at the before piece( that most would probably junk) and the finished product. Well done. Thanks Steve

Re: Speed warning pics for (into69z)

Hey thanks Steve and just to let you know I set it to were the lowest setting on the white warning needle is 20 mph. I have had my hand on 20 or 30 of these speed warnings and all of them that I have seen were in the 18-22 mph range. This is one of the main reasons you see the plastic cone piece that the cable goes into getting broken so much, people try and turn them to zero. I will try and get it out today or tomorrow.

Thanks PT

Paul, are painting the speedwarning needle white or yellow ? I have always painted mine white but a discussion about a month ago or so, one of the board members said he had a nos speedwarning and the needle was yellow. He said he would post a pic but never did.

Re: Speed warning pics for (into69z)

All of the needles that I have ever seen were white. They may have yellowed over time but they were white from the factory.

I thought the same thing that it might have yellowed from the sun over time but he said his was a nos speedwarning, still in the box with a yellow needle! He said it was just the opposite and they get bleached out to the white color. Anyway, I still paint all of mine white

Re: Speed warning pics for (into69z)

I have seen some of the 67-69 Camaro's in yellow but I have never seen the trucks in yellow but who knows. I like mine white and I would say white from the factory until someone shows me an NOS one in yellow. I have seen only one NOS one and it was on ebay several years ago. I do not remember the color of the needle but it did go for like 550.00 for just the head itself.

i'm the idiot that bought that one it's in my completly NOS guage cluster-including tach, vacuum and 80 lb. oil guage- but it's wrapped very well and stashed away in storage for my next project. i don't recall the color of the needle right now. i have well over $1200 in that damn cluster but it sure is pretty.

Jerry it does not take much to wrap up a 1000.00 in one and I would not say you are and idiot. You are the only person I know of with a completely NOS speed warning head.

Wink Re: Speed warning pics for (into69z)

Rick-speedminders are listed on the SPID's. The ones I have seen came from a L6 three speed w/overdrive, and a big truck-dump truck like a c-50 style.

As for the mounting of the buzzer, the last one I pulled was on a 67 3/4 ton with a 327 and a t400, and was mounted on the firewall at the top of where the insulation stops-there was a factory cut out in the insulation and I suspect all the firewall insulation have the cut out there, you just need to finish removing the cut out to install the buzzer. Someone on the forum had pictures showing the buzzer attached to the top of the steering shaft hoop above the actual column. On other models of cars they just attached to the back of the gauge panel. Steve

my speed warning needle is white, and here's a pic of where the adjustment to set the needle is. This is stored in my shop waiting for the day i can find and afford the vacuum gauge, as then it'll be complete.

my -now- ex wife sure called me some choice names when i won that bid, lol. i only know of one other NOS speedwarning head, Bill at vintage chevy truck out here in fremont, ca. has it. i'm sure there are others floating around but not too many. i've been gathering NOS pieces for my next project for about 10 years-it's my 72 cheyenne 20 4x4 that my uncle bought brand new. things have been at a standstill after my divorce and some health issues but i still hope to finish it someday. it will have some neat goodies if/when it gets done.
by the way, you do awesome work on your restorations. two thumbs up.
