Nice '72 Cheyenne Feature Article
Found another one to share. I was lucky with my the magazine stories I've written that I always chose timeless Cars & Trucks so that when you looked at the stories or in 20 years they hopefully stand-up as good cars. I NEVER liked the trendy pastel, tweeded, tech-vomit crap some of the other guys just couldn't get enough of and crammed into magazines by the ton.
Just found this one in a mag a lot of people probably missed because it was one of those news stand "One Shots" titled "Classic Truck Trends" from 2003. Some good stuff, but found this feature I totally forgot writing. Hope you dig it. |

Beautiful truck! I've always thought it was pretty neat when a vehicle is purchased new and stays in the family it's entire life. Great article, too!

Re: Nice '72 Cheyenne Feature Article
It's from the "past" because I wrote all of it between 1999 and 2004. If somebody would have me do some stuff now it would be NEW stuff! But with print media dying everyone is trying to hang onto the raft in their own space so I have moved on for now until people miss the interesting stories. Now you can get stuff quick and easy on the internet, but the time will come when interesting reporting is again valuable.

Timeless is classic. Classic is timeless. We like these trucks for what they are and always have been. Just a few touches is just enough. These trucks speak for themselves.

Re: Nice '72 Cheyenne Feature Article
Jim,
A little bit of publishing history, and perhaps the reason why CTT only lasted one issue: Censors might have perceived CTT as "See-Tit-Tee", and thought it might have been a depraved attempt to combat Tailgate on the newsstand... just a thought. |

Re: Nice '72 Cheyenne Feature Article
awesome truck and awesome article!!
Jim, I'm alot like you, forget the trendy stuff, lets get to the basics of why these trucks are so cool.......... You have proved time and time again, that all these trucks really need is a drop and wheels, no need to get crazy with wacked out paint or full out custom interiors, I like em just the way the General made em!!! |

Re: Nice '72 Cheyenne Feature Article
I remember that layout and saw that truck locally a few times......don't know where it is now. That truck almost convinced me to leave mine stock colors cuz it look so damn good. That was a nice layout.

Re: Nice '72 Cheyenne Feature Article
Jim, I bought that issue in 03 And the story on the history of the brother& family was great. I still have the two page picture of that truck in my shop. And, it motivated me to make my long bed into a short bed (avatar truck) so thanks for the great pics and story! cheers, Pat

Re: Nice '72 Cheyenne Feature Article
Thanks Guys, pulling out these old articles has reminded me when I was having FUN doing that stuff. There is an editorial in new issue of "Hot Rod Deluxe" the speaks EXACTLY to what myself and many of my friends have gone through in the downsizing of the print magazine world- having lost our jobs to budget cuts where the guys with the most seniority or talent have been cut for the few who will do it for the least money- and as John will agree, there was NEVER great money to do it in the first place- LOL! I was kinda shocked to read an editorial that spoke DIRECTLY to ME- rather than the average reader- but it states that the talent of good story telling is being lost to big business and the budget cuts.
I tried to think ahead of all this and make the move to an internet based magazine, but after all the work, planning, writing, promotion my two "friends" decided to "help me out" as they put it while I was going through my divorce and closing my SO-CAL Speed Shop and the two of them without my approval decided to make it a 50/50 deal between them rather than us being three equal partners as it was written up before I put in a couple years of work (me doing about 95% of everything as far as writing and promoting and gathering the content). I was pretty upset, but now they each have 50% of nothing as the audience has gone away and they haven't produced any new content for almost a year. That's really how I ended up here- where I started in 1999. I loved the trucks then- I have no ties or connections to "the business"- and I still love trucks now. It's not a "job"- it's what I like, pure and simple. Thanks Jim |
