17x10 wheels, why don't they exist?
I'm talking about 8 lug wheels for a 3/4 ton 4x4 type vehicle...I guess 2wd people might also be interested.
I'm swapping 8 lug axles under my blazer and have tossed around the idea of using 17 inch wheels as opposed to 16s due to ever increasing availability and low cost of A/T tires for 17 inch wheels. I also want the 17 inch wheels to be 10 inchs wide. Most every style of wheel I like goes 17x8, then 17x9 then thats it. Is there a reason for this??? You can get a 15x10 and a 16x10 no problem (I believe 18s stop at 9" as well then once you get to 20s, a 10" wide is available again, but I'm not considering anything bigger than 17" diameter). At this point I'm just frustrated and wanting to know why more than anything! By the way, I'm faily modest when it comes to wheels, Classic IIs, "D" Windows, etc. I'm not going for the blinged out XD Rockstars or anything like that. Here is a centerline wheel that I have been drooling over for a while...once agian 17x8, 17x8.5, 17x9, the end. Anybody have any insight?

Re: 17x10 wheels, why don't they exist?
I'm betting it has something to do with load rating. The 8 lug wheels are for bigger trucks. The tires you are looking at do not meet the load rating for the trucks those 8 lug wheels will fit. Since there are no tires to meet that load rating in that width, there is no market for 8 lug wheels that wide.
Just a guess. |
