Re: Headlight relays..
Certainly, just get the 30 amp versions.. most places have them hanging up in the electrical aisle, they're the 'standard' type you find everywhere.
Once you get them let us know and we can help you get this completed. i just finished this modification on my buddy's '72 and it made a huge difference. |

The Checkers that is no longer near where I work is where I tried this same thing. "Hi. I am going to upgrade the electrical system on my 40 year old pickup. I need a Bosch style relay". The pimply kid jumps on a terminal and starts hacking away. "What year?" 1970. "What engine?" 350. "They didn't come with a 350." Ok. Try a 5.7 liter "Got it. Auto or manual?" Auto. "2 or 4 wheel drive? 4 "You don't have any relays on that truck" I finallly got rid of him and found what I was looking for in a bubble pack with the electrical wires, connectors, etc. Of course they only had one on the hook. I think you should avoid the kid at the counter and look around the aisle by the electrical stuff.

Re: Headlight relays..
I buy my relays on ebay in bulk. You can get 10 of them delivered for 25 bucks and that includes the molded plugs and wiring pigtails.

Re: Headlight relays..
Advanced Autoparts and Pepboys usually have them hanging around the electronics isle (either by lighting or stereo/autotheft). Not sure what amperage they are rated at but you can get them dirt cheap (around a dollar). The main thing your looking for is the current rating.

One day I went in there to get something and he said he is leaving Checkers. I asked why. He said he wants to sell auto parts, not mp3 players and (pedal powered) tricycles. The next Sunday I looked at the checkers ad in the Sunday paper and noticed that there was all but one page of cheap, Chinese crapola for sale and a few autoparts on one page.

I went to my local salvage yard and got a setup off of a newer furd pickup, It has two relays in a nice holder with a cover over it and a bracket to bolt to the inner fender, Worked like a champ! Best part is the owner gave it to me... LockDoc

Re: Headlight relays..
Ok, Im looking @ the diagram and im assuming the yellow/blue boxes are the relays.
Why'd I buy a 5 prong if I only use 4 of them. Or am I not reading right.. Any other items I should buy/make sure I have before installation?

Re: Headlight relays..
I just go into my local "Child Employed" auto parts stores and ask them for a water pump for a 1963 Chevrolet Covair Monza. That'll keep 'em going for a while.
If it don't fit a Honda they sure as hell can't find it |

Re: Headlight relays..
The reason there are five prongs is it allows you to wire the relay to cut power when a voltage is applied if you use the relay for other applications.

The diagram works for both Chevy and GMC. On a Chevy just "snip" the green wire to the yellow high beam circles. On a GMC snip the green wire to the blue low beam circles.
