Re: How much weight can it tow?

Well it's looking like I may be hauling almost 10,000lbs. My one trailer is between 4-5000lbs dry weight plus the suburban with is another 4-5000lbs with all the extra parts. Figured out I need to put a different hitch on the blazer and rewire everything, so I'll be cutting out the current hitch and welding in a new one out back with new hook ups.

I guess we'll see how it goes for towing 9,000+lbs for 100miles. Original TH350 tranny and 3:73 rearend with a 350 crate motor with around 50,000 miles. If only I had my toy hauler built already lol Make life so much simpler...oh well.

Re: How much weight can it tow?

I would say that is too big of a load with a Blazer. You may have power to get it moving and trailer brakes to help you stop but I think you will likely pick up some swaying due to the short wheel base. I pulled a 4k pound pickup bed trailer from Kansas to Alaska with my blazer. It was sketchy at times going through the mountains. You'll really need to balance the tounge weight just right with how far forward or back you put the vehicle. Too much or too little and you will pick up a bad sway. Suburbans are heavy, I pull a car trailer with my F350 powerstroke and 10k pounds is a good load even for it. Hope it goes well.

Re: How much weight can it tow?

Hope you don't intend to weld your hitch to the Blazer frame.

I did years ago and it broke off on a busy interstate near Miami, Fla. Fortunately the safety chains held and it ground to a stop on the equalizer bars.
Was pulling a 21 ft Streamline camper trailer and was able to hitch it onto a bumper ball.

At a local weld shop they added tangs to my hitch and bolted it to the frame. Said there was some law against welding to the frame. Could be a local Florida state law, or maybe other states -- don't know for sure up here in Washington, but any hitches I've seen have been bolted.

You might want to check it out.

I presently tow a 26 ft Avion with a diesel Jimmy. It would run between 5K and 6K lbs loaded. It was a handful until I installed a Pull Rite hitch. Now the sway tendency is gone. I understand there is another hitch that will work also called a Kensley.

First, what kind of trailer do you have that is 5K pounds empty weight? I have a 20' car hauler with steel deck, 2 and 5/16ths hitch with 5K lb drop leg, and 2-5200 lb axles that is only 2700 lbs empty!

Second, I would NEVER dream of putting 10K lbs behind my 39 year old half-ton rated Jimmy with the short wheelbase it has! Hell, the GVWR of my Jimmy is 5000 I think, and with a tongue weight of close to 1K lbs, that's gonna be almost maxing the GVWR on just the truck!
