Manual to Automatic??

New guy here..... I was just wondering if I have a 4 speed manual with a divorced tranfer case in my 62 carryall 4X4, and I wanted to put in a 700r4, would I need to find one from a 4 wheel drive or 2?? Certain years?? Do some of them have a long shaft or short? Thanks a lot for any help. -Scott.

Welcome to the forum

With a divorced transfer case you will want a 2wd transmission. As far as I know all 2wd 700R4's are the same length.

Re: Manual to Automatic??

it will go in there though the intermediate shaft will be short. you can go to a 200r4 and have it built up. 200r4 is a little shorter

So you'd suggest the 200r4 rather than the 700r4? I'd like my truck to accelerate quicker off the line.

Re: Manual to Automatic??

You should have enough room for a 700R4.

They will both do the job. what I am saying is that the 200r4 is a little shorter and will give you a little more room there
I have a t5 in mine with about 10" of d/shaft(same length as a 700r2 I think. if it doesn't hold up for my purposes I do have a 700r4 ready to go in, though I think that I would go to a tremec

one think about it you do not have to worry about the speedo gear as you use the t/c one
