Re: haynes manual

You might find an Haynes or chilton manual at a used book store near you, or swap meet.

Re: haynes manual

A factory service manual is only a 15-20 bucks more and is far, far better than a Haynes manual. I got a reproduction off eBay.

Re: haynes manual

If you want something worth having get a 1966 Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual or a 1966 Motor's Manual. Here are examples:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1966-...sQ5fLiterature

http://cgi.ebay.com/MOTORS-AUTO-REPA...item4aa0e013df

The Chevy Shop manual is specific to your truck, is about 2” thick and an invaluable tool. It not only has tune up information but wiring diagrams, body repair and adjustment information for virtually the whole truck. The 1966 Motor’s Manual is not specific to trucks, but goes back to 1959 and contains a wealth of automotive knowledge.

IMHO Chilton is about 70% as valuable as a Motor’s Manual, and Hayne’s is about 5% as valuable. I’ve owned a few Haynes Manuals over the years and never found them to contain much of anything worthwhile.

Thumbs up Re: haynes manual

The factory manuals are way better than a Haynes or Chiltons. I purchased mine here.

Re: haynes manual

Any manual in CD form pretty much sucks, unless you have a pc in your shop and your hands are always clean.... Gear lube and 50 year old grime and grit tends to gunk up the mouse and keyboard.
And if you add in the cost to print out the manual on your home PC, due to the high cost of printer cartridges, you will spend more on the CD in the end than just buying the paper manual....
And CD's don't last forever either.
at least that's my 2 cents

I did get the CD version which is the same as the factory manuals, however mine was for a Chevy truck. I do agree that a book is better but I also think that a new CD is better than an old used book that many times is missing pages and it's really not that hard to pop a CD into your home computer print out whatever page you need and take that to the garage.
