I have a stepside bed I'm working on repainting and putting a new wood floor in.

It's a short stepside off of a 78-83 truck. I need to know how many crossmembers it is supposed to have. It had two of the short ones and three of the taller ones (not including the very back one that is much different) on it when I got it, but I want it to be right. When I look in the catalogs they don't seem to tell me how many of each the bed is supposed to have.

Can you other stepside owners or who have done this in the past please take a look at your beds and let me know? Thanks!

That helps for the top, but I need to see the bottom of the bed. These crossmembers are what the bed strips bolt to...

There should be 4 tall ones for the bed bolts to pass through and 2 short ones that go where the axle "hump" in the frame are. This in in addtion to the rear cross sill that attaches the rear of the bed together.

I'm probably picking up a stepside bed on Thursday. I'll take some pics for you. It's a later model one (probably early to mid 80s).
