74 Blazer has sat for many years.......
I recently acquired a 74 Blazer 4wd for $300. It has a 350 TH400 with 205 and a 4" lift with blocks front and rear. . I do not know for sure how long this truck has been sitting but the last time it was registered appears to be 1983. The engine had some mods to it externally but I do not know about internal. Anyway thats not a big deal I was thinking of going crate engine and the email I got from Scoggin Dickey seems to have just what I need. 330hp, 400+ ft lbs or torque for $2100 or so.
The main question I have is since this truck has obviously sat for along time what do I need to do as far as the running gear? I was going to redo all the suspension basically and upgrade possibly to 3/4 ton running gear and maybe a 4" lift...possibly 6". Do you guys think I could get by with just changing fluid in the transfer case and possibly even the trans? This will not be a daily driver or anything like that. Thanks Brad

maybe you should open up the tranny, transfer, and diffs, and take a look at the internals to make sure no water got inside. definitely change the fluids. probably be a good idea to change the seals on everything too. there's probably more, someone else will fill in the blanks.

Change the fluids and go. You'll find the leaks.

If the you can get the current engine running (even if it smokes and runs terribly) it will help you decide whether you will need to rebuild the rest of the drivetrain. If you wait and bolt in the new motor with existing drivetrain you may end up having to pull tranny or transfer case later. Test drive is worth a lot of time and effort no matter how crippled it may be.

TexSparks where in NE Texas are you? Anywhere near Paris? I know it cannot be too far from it cause NE Texas isnt that big :p
I had thought about trying to get it running but I have no idea how long its been since it ran for sure. I already ran a opossum out of it.............no telling what other critters might be calling it home Brad

Should have asked the possum some questions about the condition of the drivetrain, he may have been familiar with any problems. I live in between Mt. Vernon and Talco, Paris is nice place. You've got a good project there, love those blazers with fully removable top.
