69-70 GRILL question
Below, is a picture of the passenger side headlight area of my 70 with it's new "reproduction" outer grill. The other picture is of a driver's side 69 with what was said to be an "original" outer grill - my question is, did only the original 69-70 outer grills have the two bars that went all the way across from the parking light to the headlight ? Some of the people on this website have said they have original outer grills that have the bars that stop before they get to the headlight ( like my new one ). Does anyone know the REAL answer ?

Re: 69-70 GRILL question
69s had the two bars all the way across and the 70s are like yours IIRC, also I heard the 69s ran into the 70 trucks. Hope this helps.

Re: 69-70 GRILL question
I thought the 69's might have run into the 70's also - here are a couple of pictures from the dealer brochures - 69 and 70 both with the bars going all the way across.

Re: 69-70 GRILL question
My 70 was built in November of 1969 so maybe it qualifies as an "early" truck. This is a picture of the grill that came on my truck when I bought it in 1996 ( with dents and scratches ) The rest of the truck looked very original at that time. ( except for the ugly mirrors )

Re: 69-70 GRILL question
From everything I have seen posted and available on the 69-70 trucks...
1969 Outer: The center lines extended past the turnsignals to the headlight bezels; only the lines were painted black 1970 Outer: The center lines extended past the turnsignals to the headlight bezels; only the lines were painted black GM Repop Outer: The center line stopped just to the outside of the turnsignals, just short of the headlight bezels. The coloring on my GM repop grill is black within the lines and between the lines on the section 'outside' the turnsignals Aftermarket Repop Outer: The center line stopped just to the outside of the turnsignals, just short of the headlight bezels. The coloring on the repop grill depends on the manufacturer; could be as described above under the GM repop or just the lines themselves. 1969 Inner: Solid 'egg crate' style all the same color 1970 Inner: 'Egg crate' style w/ recessed center sections with a mixture of silver and black coloring All GM/Repop Inner: The aftermarket and GM inners all mimic the '70 style; a '69 inner is not available from either NOS or repop

Re: 69-70 GRILL question
I have a 1970 c20 and it's bars go all the way to the head light. I don't know if it's original or not but my fenders were original.. I think. They are the gold poly that the cab floor and firewall are painted, which matches the build list on the inside of the glove box.

I know that the inner in my '69 in a GM replacement and it has the recessed sections which are painted silver like the '70s. Digging for another thread where we covered this same question. I will update my post... just want to find the other thread first. EDIT http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ill+difference http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=parting+chevy (Posts 19-25; Post #1 shows the '69 inner) Couldn't find the link I was looking for.

Re: 69-70 GRILL question
I just noticed in the picture when blowing it up that the grille is in fact the 70 style...just not painted that way...I have always seen people say that the 70 grilles aren't reproduced and when looking at the repops they looked like simple "egg crate" style to me but obviously on closer review they have the raised portions....
So you were 100% correct and I will edit my original post to avoid confusion. Continue to live and learn! Here's pics from my old thread where I had some repro and NOS stuff for sale... note the repro inner at the bottom of the picture here (has the raised areas but painted all silver) and this was an original 70 inner painted black with the raised silver areas in it.

Re: 69-70 GRILL question
Awesome post J!
Your inner NOS inner had the recessed areas, which is described in the first picture you posted as a '70. Why couldn't GM have made this easier for us?

Re: 69-70 GRILL question
So, a 70 outer grill should have the two bars going all the way from the turn signal to the headlight bezel ?
