That is the eaton (corperate) rear end. We call them banjo rear ends. WES

Tough as nails.... definitely worth keeping IMO. Some brake parts are hard to find so guys will swap them out, but if it's in good working order, I'd keep it.

Its the presence of that 5.284 bearing in the diagram that makes them strong. That keeps good alignment even under high load.

they are tough as nails, but, outdated.
some brake parts are hard to find, some brake parts you will not find. If it needs rebuilt, you'll have the same issues, and gearing is very limited.

Roughly what percentage of 3/4 tons had these vs Dana 60's? Were there factors such as 4x4, BBC, that made a certain truck more likely to have or not?

Re: What rear end is in my 3/4 ton truck? Pics

Most 3/4 tons got the Dana
many GMCs got the dana
most of the rest got the Eaton

The Dana, while I know there diffs are pretty good, these 3/4 tons got lame axleshafts, so as a (stock) rearend they kinda suck.

Re: What rear end is in my 3/4 ton truck? Pics

These rear ends make a Dana 60 look like a 10 bolt. Agreed brake parts are hard to find, but a 14 bolt disc brake conversion fixes that. Guys run these rearends in off road trucks with 40 inch tires and have little if any problems with them. If you want to get rid of it let me know, I probably have a Dana 60 laying around I'll trade you. The axles only have 17 splines but rarely break. If they do you can insall 14 bolt side gears and 14 bolt 30 spline axles in this rearend. Keep it, you won't break it on a 2wd truck. Yes it is a corporate rear commonly referred to as an Eaton.

I never liked them due to the gearing options. I do believe nothing taller than like 4.11 was available.

Re: What rear end is in my 3/4 ton truck? Pics

True 4.10's are the highest gear, but with an OD automatic such as a 700R4 those 4.10's become a 2.90 in OD. 3.07 with a 4L80.
