Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

Alright guys, I am sure this has been debated - I guess I should do a search on this one, but I will give my thoughts and listen to yours before deciding on what to do. It is or has not been my style to lower a vehicle, but I have seen some great looking lowered rides on this site. However I am leanin toward stock stance or maybe even a slight lift to my 70 c10 lwb. Any thoughts?

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

For me stance depends on how you approach the build. If you're going for a period correct restoration, you might desire the stock height. Lifted also looks good on the four wheel drives. For me personally, I think lowered is the way to go because I love the way a nice set of wheels looks tucked under a fender. That's the beauty of this site and these trucks; it's a conglomeration of ideas and styles that all meld together. Welcome to the board, by the way

well If your normally not into lowered Trucks then I am sure you may not be totally satisfied if you go that route. best bet is to go with what you like the most. If your truck is a 4x4 then I would say go with a lift. but if its 2 wheeler then maybe stock height, just my .02 cents. but then again if you go maybe a bit of a drop wouldn't be so bad. A 2/4 maybe an ok drop to get used to. and not so bad of a look either. and all that would require is drop springs. IMO any how

Welcome to the board! What kind of truck are you talking about, and what will you be using it for?

It really comes down to what works for you. While I like the looks of a (somewhat) dropped 2WD shortie, I'm a 4x4 guy and a slight lift works best for me.

It seems very few do what we did back thru the late 60's to very early 80's.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

Tell us more about the rest of what you plan with this truck. Stock, raked, moderately lowered,slammed...can all look good. Huge wheels with that aren't tucked look awful,IMO. A more traditional look, whether custom or stock, can look good either way. Remember, these trucks have been customized since day one. The styles have changed but through the years there have been tasteful modes to stance.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

I'm not a fan of the drop so my vote is for stock. Having said that, I've seen some 2WD trucks with a moderate lift -- mostly just lifting the front so it sits level with the back --that I think looks pretty good too.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

Thanks for all the replys guys. I guess I should have given a little more info. 1970 2wd c10 lwb. This is my first build so I am still "planning" if you will. I want something that I can drive in city and maybe short road trips. I believe that my truck is a stock stance right now, but it sure seems low - maybe that was normal for 1970. Does anyone know what the stock height should be? Maybe my coils have weakend and new coils and body mounts would raise it a little. I have also seen some pics of 2wd trucks with a slight lift - maybe 2" that looked pretty good, but never have seen one in person so I am still unsure of that.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

I think it all depends on the style you want. I am a fan of lowered, and yes really low vehicle can be a PITA sometimes (driveways, pot holes, and speedbumps) but you can do a very mild lowering that will keep the stock looking while giving the truck a bit of an edge. Think about your truck with 1" - 2" spring drop on all 4 corners and some stock steelies or US slot mags (better IMHO), very kewl! If you descide to raise the truck then make sure to not get radical with the lift (makes the truck handle like crap) but a mild lift to fit bigger tires (a must on lifted truck, nothing more wrong than a lifted truck on tall skinny tires.....yuck). Good luck on your project.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

my truck is sitting on the bumpstops and still looks like it sits higher than alot of the 2wd trucks ive seen at shows I like my stance not obviously slammed, looks like it should hae from the factory. Stock 2wd ride height is crazy high unless you're using the truck to haul hay or firewood.
just my opinion.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

It's all good. I myself would never put some of the wheel and tire combinations I have seen on anything that I own, or the suspension height to make it work. I do appreciate the effort that others put into their trucks. We share the same obsession with our rides, not the same taste.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

you may also like the look of a slight rake. drop the front and leave the rear. I think mine is dropped 3 in the front and 1-2 in the rear. just another suggestion for ya.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

Rake - I had thought about this but I did not know that was what you call it.
jonjon, looking at your truck brings 2 questions to mind;
1. Do you have smaller wheels/tires on the front?
2. Looking at your rear makes me think my truck may already be lowered - wait! I guess I should probably word that a little different. Looking at the rear OF YOUR TRUCK - is that better?
Does anyone know what the stock height should be? How would I check that? I am sure the coils could sag over the years.

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

Any thoughts? I suggest lower and bag it. That gives you a nice low stance that can be raised when necessary.

Yes I have slightly smaller tires, wheels are 15 inch both front and rear, and I have lowering coil springs in the rear. Not sure of the exact drop they give me but I think it's 1-2 inches

Re: Lowered, Stock Stance, or Lift

anything is better than stock in my opinion. I either like them noticeably low or pretty tall.

My 70 LWB has about 3 inch front and 2 inch rear drop, so it has a rake.

On the contrast, my 84 K5 blazer has an 8 inch lift on 38s. I like them either way.
