New tires on my 85 C20. Stick with 235/85, or go with 265/75?
WHat is the norm? Its a camper special, and has the Michelin 235/85/16 load rated 'E'.
Should I go back with that same size? Or go to a 265/75? I dont want it to look funny. |

I have the same wheel, hubcap, and body color on my 83 c20 suburban, so I will vote stay with the factory size.
I purchased BFG All-Terrains in the stock size and they work and look great! Also, keeps the speedometer accurate... the 265/75 look better on a 7 inch or 8 inch wide wheel anyway. They could "ballon" and wear the center out. Last edited by blakeduren; 02-04-2011 at 07:20 PM. |

Also, I see you wheels look like new, I was wanting to get mine painted. What white did you use to repaint yours? What is the width of this wheel we have? And finally, A 265/75 would be ALMOST as tall as the 235/85, but an inch wider. Sure that extra inch wouldnt look better on mine? |

I cleaned and painted my wheels with Rustoleum Engine Enamel, the gloos white color. I did this for cheap and easy touch ups. This is my fun camping/work truck.
Our wheels are 16x6.5 with a 8x6.5 lug pattern. These are pretty narrow by today's standards, but that "pizza cutter" keeps my 2wd truck going in the ice and snow no problem, with little highway road noise. If you are going to do a 265-75 you must use a 7 or 8 inch width rim according to tirerack.com. Sorry i don't have any good pictures....here is one from far away. |

You can use which ever wheel you like, I have gone both ways, the 265 is a 1\2in. shorter but 1in. wider. You can easily put 265's on the 6.5in. wide wheels, the '01-'07 3\4ton trucks have 16x6.5in. wheels and lots of guys stuff 285's on them, not smart and way to wide but the 265's look and work great, having said that I would put the 235's back on your stock wheels as you will get better mileage, longer tire wear, and less sidewall flex. The 265's seem to be about $5-$10 cheaper per tire and more available.
