wow ok I missed that. I was reading above that links jef5150.

Are they talking about any of the crate engines or just the performance setups?

follow the link I gave and click on the "warranty" link. I really didn't make it up. It says 7yr/70,000mi. It does say after 2 years it's pro-rated. On the other hand it also claims to re-imburse for labor to repair/replace the motor. Non-the-less now I'm thinking that the GM Goodwrench deal might make more sense for me since it would give me someone to contact locally in case of a problem. Further investigation is in order. I'll post the results if anyone's interested.

This is the 7yr/70,000 mile they offer!!!!Warranty coverage is for seven (7) years or seventy thousand miles, "pro rated".Labor reimbursement for labor cost for repairing or replacing a defective unit is limited to $35.00 per hour for the "first year only", based on time allowed in Mitchell time guide, up to a maximum of $400.00 including parts and labor.{that means they will pay $400 max for parts & labor,,,,you pay the rest!!!!!

35.00 per hour? ouch, thats roughly half of the going labor rate in the KC area.

You'll find that same type of "wording" on the flavor of the month engines (Orielly,carquest,napa,autozone...)

the shop i work at charges $90.00/hr..."machining time only ". THE material is supplied by the vendor.

I have a crate 383 motor in my 1971 chevy truck. What a great engine. brand new from the manufacture. 325 hp @4500 rpm's and 415 lbs of torque @3500 rpm's.

scoggins-dickey has a good warranty and price, I'd also call your local dealer and see what they can do for you. I recommend checking into Jasper engines if there is a dist center near you. 7yr -75,000 mile warranty. The cost is a factor though... You'll spend 1800 on a GM 350. The warranty is excellent though, no games... if there is a problem inside the engine, they fix it until the warranty is done. If your interested I can mail you some information on them. (if you didnt guess, our shop is also an installation center for Jasper)

im NOT trashing "CRATE MOTORS",GM does a fine job!!!!!I've installed 2 v6's,and 1 350ci, with no problems.I'm just trying to get some info to you guys about warranties,,,,,,"if it sounds to good to be true ,it usually is"......jeff

i have a rebuilt 350 sitting on a stand in my shop. flat tops, double gear timing chain, little hotter cam, and it still came out at under 2000 canadian, and there is still a 1 year warranty. this one is only 2 get me by till i finsh the big girl, but it works. it was manufactuered by reliable rebuilts. not sure where though

my 2 cents, go with the rebuilt

I highly recommending just replacing your cam, (with lifters, timing gears and chain). It will only take a couple hours, hey if I can do it you can, I had never tore down an engine before, it was fun!

If you do replace your cam, etc, be sure & clean the cam bits from the oil pan.

One of the reasons I went with a crate motor was the warranty. If I had a problem with the motor, I can take it or have it towed to any chevy dealer and they had to warranty the motor. Anywhere else, I would have to tow it back to the house and then take it to the place where the motor was purchased for the warranty.

My truck is used to tow a trailer from the Los Angeles area to Parker, Az. during the summer. I would not want to see the bill if I had to tow the truck if it broke down going to or coming back from the river.

My piece of mind is worth the extra money
