Re: flame throwers
put a spark plug into the tip, run it off a toggle switch, and run rich

Re: flame throwers
so you would just need a hot wire ran to the plug or do you need a coil setup

Re: flame throwers
Sorry I forgot the coil, yeah a coil is needed to give enough spark to ignite the unspent fuel.
For big flames and to save the plugs in the engine block (from running rich) most guys run a propane tank and just inject that in the tailpipes before the tip and plugs. Then when you flip the switch the propane inject and the spark goes off you get big flames. Just be sure to be revving when you do it so the flames shot away from the truck.

Re: flame throwers
You need a cheap 12v blower motor, 2 sets of ignition points, 2 coils,2 plugs, 2 anti foulers, some plug wires and a on off on toggle switch. Drill holes in the pipes, cut off the closed end of the anti foulers weld them in the pipe as bungs, install the spark plugs in the pipe use a short gap .25-.35. Find a place to mount the coils and run the plug wires. Take the blower motor make a plate to mount the points use a 7/16 nut with a set screw to open and close the points. If you don't understand look at a points dizzy to get a better idea. Mount close to the coils. Wire in the toggle to the main ignition feed to the distributor. One side to the dist, the other to the blower motor. the purpose of the switch is to kill the coil and spin the points. Tune the carb rich or pull the choke. Rev up the engine to around 2500, rapidly flick the switch from ignition to the flame throwers and you will get flame. Experiment with the rhythm and you will find what works best. Jay

Re: flame throwers
IMO the only way to get gooooood flames is to run an electric fuel pump with an injector nozzle and a spark plug with an ignition coil hooked up
good luck and you didn't hear this from me

Re: flame throwers
What are you trying to do it on?
If it has a CAT you will just kill it with the raw fuel, and it will get traped in a CAT and never lite. You will have to inject fuel after the CAT if it has one to work. If you dont it will work fine just set it up so that when you hit the coil for the flames it kills the coil to the engine. AND DO REV IT UP BEFORE YOU LITE THEM!! I have seen guys blow up there exhaust when the flame lit all the raw fuel in the pipe!!!

Re: flame throwers
from experiance, just hooking a switch up to spark plugs in your tail pipes will not work. you need to get gas out the exhaust from the engine while maintaining a constant spark at your tail pipes.
maintaing the constant spark is the tricky part. hook up a distributer, model t ford buzz box coil, or just buy a $80.00 kit. |
