brake light prob

so this is what happend. like an idiot i hooked up my battery cable backwards and for some reason, my left brake light dont work now. the running light comes on,but when i hit the brake it dont work. i need help please. thanx. its a 78 chevy if that helps any. thanx for any help.

does the left rear turn signal work? the brake light & turn signal use the same circuit & bulb filament. if the turn signal does work then the brake light circuit in the turn signal switch is bad. if it does not work then the switch OR a circuit problem from the switch back OR a ground is most likely the problem.

Well actually my turn signal lever broke so i use hand signals for now. But my turn signal was working fine and brake light too. This problem just started when i hooked up the battery terminals incorrect. I probably got a short. Idk.

You can see if it flashes by turning on the emergency flashers also...there is only one wire that goes to the back for both brake lights so if one works then you are getting power back there...you have to check the wiring where its splits off to each light.Doubt it has anything to do with you hooking the cable up wrong

lol yeah i checked my blinker fluid,im ok. so i come to find out my turnsignal dont work neither on the left side. u guys think it could be my turnsignal switch? i have to brake light or turnsignal. help please!!

Did you check your fuses?

Might have wasted the flasher relay also?
