vacuum test issues

I purchased a Vacuum test (first picture) and I hooked to the carb at the tube sticking from the carb with the screw in it (second picture), at idle it registered nothing, at aprox. 2k rpms it registered around 17-18. I am not confident that this is a good place to test vacuum. If this is fine then cool, if not where should I plug in? any advise would be great.
Thanks in advance

Re: vacuum test issues

The location that you hooked your gauge to is "ported" vacuum and it will be more helpful to check manifold vacuum. (Ported vacuum is above the throttle plates and manifold vacuum is below the throttle plates).

If you have a vacuum line from the transmission you can hook up to the location and get manifold vacuum.
