Are the dash pads riveted on the ends? Can someone please explain the R+R on a dash pad removal procedure? Thanks for the reply's...

they are just screwed/bolted there are the 4 screws and then there is 5 or 6 bolts (they are the same bolts as the emblems for the fenders) the old ones are a pita to pull off for some reason! the new ones go on good and come off good

count on pulling the inst panel, radio, center A/C vent (if equipped) and the glove box liner. It can probably be done without removing all this, but you won't want to do it that way.

Right on, and thanks for the quick reply Rick! Im headed back out to the shop!

I got the four screws out no problem, when I pulled on the old pad that seemed to be stuck or glued, the end broke off and exposed what appeared to be a rivet! I think Ill grind the end screw heads to free the steel straps through the old pad. Sound feasible? I have a new pad to reinstall. Thanks Longhorn for the reply!

I would suggest following Longhorn Mans advice, sounds like he's actually done it once or ten times.

As Longhorn suggested, you'll be a lot further ahead taking some items out of your way. It can be done but is not easy. The bolts stick through to the backside of the dash... Some are relatively easy to get to, some aren't. Stick your arm up behind the dash and you should be able to feel them... There is 1 at either end and then 4 or 5 in between. The ones behind the cluster and above the radio can be a PITA.

my biggest problems were the ones on both ends!

Just to add....some of the trucks I had where people switched them out they used adhesive and no bolts at all due to the hard nature of the installation...so I'd check to see if it will come up easily...

....and depending on how much you're doing on the interior put it back on before you put your glovebox, radio, and cluster in...

If your not wanting to take your whole dash pad apart right now there is another option. If your old pad is worhtless you can rip off all the old padding and there will two strips of metal. The top strip has the 7 bolts in it. You can use tin snips to cut away the bulk of the metal. Then use a sawsall to cut the 7 bolts. Just don.t cut your dash You might scratch it abit but the new pad will cover it.

This is sort of a temporary solution if you are not wanting to take every thing apart right now. The four screws on the outside of the new pad will hold it in place til you get ready to do the 7 bolts or the ones you cant reach now.

Hey Thanks for the reply's you guy's! That "suck factor" just shot out of sight! I closed the shop and will dismantle the whole dash tomorrow. This did resolve a decision to paint the dash or not. Ill go ahead and look into sliding that steering column forward a bit while everything's apart. Im going to have a screw driver or a wrench on every bolt and screw on this old girl...whether I want to or not! Ill post pics tomorrow...Thanks again
