Right turn signal issue

Here's one that has me stumped at the moment...

Both park lamps work.
Left turn signal works fine.
Right turn signal makes noise, but the side marker nor the park lamp come on at all.
Additionally, the indicator bulb for the right turn signal is out/missing. Would this cause an issue?

Just looking to see if there's a common place I should look for an issue like this before trying to replace parts.

Thanks -

What year truck you working on? Do the flashers work? The bulb may be used to complete the circuit to the flasher.

Re: Right turn signal issue

Sorry, I forgot to mention that - it's an 87. I'll have to check tomorrow as I took out my temp wiring for testing - the factory wire to that side marker on the pass side was chewed by a rat while it was sitting in a barn. I'm going to get a new pigtail/socket tomorrow from autozone and I'll update if the hazards work.

Re: Right turn signal issue

If you had mice in the truck, you might want to inspect all your wiring. The truck I got was parked in a barn for a couple of years and I had to do some wiring changes due to mice, under the dash was terrible.

Re: Right turn signal issue

Yeah, to update the troubleshooting...

replaced the socket for the park lamp, flasher, and fuse.

When using the hazards or the blinker, all lights blink as they are supposed to except for the passenger marker lamp and park lamp.

The indicator in the dash does work but does not light when the blinker is on.

Troubleshooting with a test lamp shows bright bulb on the side of the park lamp socket with "always on" power, and when the blinker is on the other side is weak and does not blink, like the drivers side.

The testing continues. It may be time for a break.

Re: Right turn signal issue

We think the dark blue wire isn't giving it any power to tell it to flash...? Ground just checked out good on the radiator support since we can ground the test light there and get bright light on the one side of the socket with park lamps on.

Re: Right turn signal issue

Make sure you have good bulbs in all of the lights. The dash lights being on with no flashing indicated a bad bulb.

Re: Right turn signal issue

Well I finally got it fixed last night. Pulled out an old alarm system and soldered a couple of wires that were unrelated... but while I was under the dash I found another flasher - replaced it and the blinker works great. It's to the right of the footwell and almost behind the dash.
