Factory tinted window question
I'm going to be checking out a '66 C-20 that I found on Craigslist, and noticed that the truck has tinted windows all the way around. I called the number and the brother answered and he told me that it was a factory air truck and all the stuff is still in the dash.
My question is: If the truck is equipped with tinted windows, does that automatically mean it's an A/C truck? Can tinted windows be ordered seperately on non A/C trucks? The reason why I'm asking is that the brother I talked to wasn't very sharp when it came to answering questions about the truck. He didn't seem like he was too swift about cars. I'm hoping this is an A/C truck. The body is pretty thrashed, and it's missing the engine, but I'm looking for a truck that I can make into a Home Depot hauler and parts chaser.

Re: Factory tinted window question
If you ordered A/C, then you got tinted windows. You could order tinted glass separately as well.
I own a '62 C-20 from the CA desert with tinted glass, no A/C. |

Re: Factory tinted window question
That makes sense, especially when you gave the example of your '62. The tinted windows on this truck were puzzling to me. The brother I talked to told me the truck was a '66, but it's got '64 emblems on the front fenders. The pictures on Craigslist don't show the rear of the truck, so I don't know whether it's got back-up lights, which would prove it's a '66. In-dash A/C wasn't available until '65. Visual clues lead me to believe it's a '64, but maybe somewhere along the line, somebody put '64 fenders on a '66.
The title of the ad read "1964-or-1966 Chevy truck", thus adding to my confusion. I'll know more tomorrow when I look at it, and I'll report my findings. Man, I hope it's a factory A/C truck. I live in the desert, and A/C is a required luxury.

Re: Factory tinted window question
As a note, back-up lights were available as options before 1966, but in '66 they became standard. The accurate year will be in the VIN, since you really can't rely on the fenders.

Re: Factory tinted window question
My 64 has factory tint but had an under dash A/C, not A/C dash. I ripped it all out though, didn't think it was factory.
