Which steering colum to buy?

Hope all are well on here. I just picked up a 1961 apache....and want to put in a "new" steering column with tilt, signal lights arm, etc (with shifter on the floor =) ) Whats a good fit for this truck, aka easy to install and works well?
FYI I am 5'10 so no short columns will do lol. Any info would be greatly appreciated/

Thanks.....

I used a 78 blazer column it bolted right in my 64 GMC and the wireing color coding was the same the total swap took me maybe 3 hours and I wasn't busting my a$$, I 'll send pictures if you need even though yours is a 61 everything should be the same

Re: Which steering colum to buy?

Since I built my own firewall I wasn't limited by anything factory, so I used just a measured length Flaming River column and Billet Specialties mount. Worked great!

Re: Which steering colum to buy?

i bought a retro fit column from P.O.l. and it was an ididit column. still waiting on parts to finish from cpp. u-joint double d shaft etc. there add said input order before 12o and order will be processed that day and after you order they tell you it takes 7-10 days to process your order? WTF i have ordered stuff from summit on sunday and it shows up at my house on tuesday

Re: Which steering colum to buy?

One thing on the the Ididit set up , you can read my post but there have two versions one is more of a bolt in item than the other. Parts numbers are the same and really no way to get it right from summit as that is where I bought mine. Ididit swapped it out free of charge. There is a slotted section with a movable insert to bolt to the factory bracket, makes things a bit easier vs running sheet metal screws into the column but both will work.

Re: Which steering colum to buy?

I got a nice Chevy Van column from the yard for $28. Was nice and tight and is even a tilt. I believe it was a mid 70's year van. They are pretty much the same from 73 up to 80. I lined it up and welded two nuts on the bottom of the column and that pretty much dose it. These are picture of the other column I had in it. I replaced that one becaue it was sloppy on the shifter. I have not taken any pictures of the new one yet.
