Anyone Ever Tried These?

Well considering shipping one fender to my house will cost about as much as 3 fenders I am looking for an alternative. Has anybody heard of these and has anybody used them? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...s#ht_500wt_846
I wonder how difficult it will be to line them up to factory.

Re: Anyone Ever Tried These?

Hard to say. A couple things that come to mind right off the bat:

1) Is it for 69 - 72 Chevy or for 68 Chevy and 68-72 GMC? It can't be for both, the front is different for the grille.
2) If it doesn't line up well with the old fender, you will spend way more money (in labor) than you will save trying to get it to work. A few cuts in the right places would probably be able to expand or shrink that panel, but you have to be smarter than me to figure it out

What you don't see in the picture is the the wheel arch area has a poor stamping, I'm not even sure if it had the reverse curve area. There is NOTHING "behind" the patch. It's only what you see in the pic. You will need the "back" of the fender cup and wheel arch area. They are good heavy steel though.

Re: Anyone Ever Tried These?

I asked the seller and will post what he says. I noticed that as well so am slightly cautious of this whole thing now.

I understand it is just the front section of the fender, that is all i need. Is that what you are saying? Or are you saying there is no lip on the edge to make welding easier?

Re: Anyone Ever Tried These?

I'm saying it's not "the front half" of the fender. It's exactly what you see in the pic. There is no back side to it at all. If you're still unsure I could dig mine out this weekend and take a pic of it. Can't remember where the heck I put it... I only need mine to fix a big dent at the very front of the fender, so it will work for me, but if you were expecting basically a fender that has been cut in half, this is not it.

Re: Anyone Ever Tried These?

Im in the same boat - live in the Yukon and it costs a fortune to get anything here.
I can double ship items to make it slightly more cost effective (been shipping parts to relatives closer to the US border and they in turn ship to me using base rate parcel postage or ship to our satelite office and use our own trucks for free)
but I think buying new or used sheet metal 'complete' like I had planned is out of the question.

Ive just cancelled an order with LMC for rear wheel bearings because they want $55 to ship them....

Oh I understand now. I will keep looking for one here in town or see if my dad can save the dented one.

Re: Anyone Ever Tried These?

I found them, so I'll post the pics anyway in case anyone else is ever wondering too...

And the wheel arches did suck as badly as I remembered. Terrible.

Re: Anyone Ever Tried These?

Oh yeah i see. But even if I did use that it would probably look better than my factory fender with a lot of bondo on it... What are you going to do with that one?

Re: Anyone Ever Tried These?

Sorry, I got plans for it

Don't forget, the front edge of the 67/68 chevy fender is different than the front edge of the 69-72 Chevy fender... The one I have is 67/68 and it looks like the "67-72" one in the pic is 67/68 chevy or 67-72 GMC (GMC never changed the front of the fenders for the grill.)
