Coys C5 / Boss 338 wheel question

I see a lot of trucks out there with Coys and Boss wheels, but I know .. there's a reason for that. They look really good on our year trucks. I like Intro Pentia too. I am just considering it right now, my rallys will need to do for a while.

I just have a question. My truck has the 73-87 cross member swap. Would I have the hub fit problems on the front rotors? Are the 71-72 different (OD of the hub) than 73-87 style? Would the front backspacing need to change, ex. tie rod differences, or anything? The PO has the factory spring with one turn cut out. I was thinking maybe ECE 2.5 drop spindles but I'm afraid that'd be too low with the big block. Your thoughts? Thanks.

Your truck looks incredible .. Wow.

Mine is a stepside, I'm not sure I could handle that much tire though.

Beautiful truck. .. Thank you for the pics.

Re: Coys C5 / Boss 338 wheel question

I can't directly answer your question. But maybe I can add something.

When I ordered my Boss 338's, I made a silly assumption. I Ass-umed that the backspacing on the 20's (5 x 5 lug pattern) was standard. That may be true.

I ordered 20 x 8.5 for the front and 20 x 10 in the rear. As I said, due to the fact that the suspension is ECE (4/6) on a '71 frame, I don't have your '73-'87 cross member answer.
But, with the stockers, ECE drop spindle and rotor set-up, the trimming of the rotors is not an issue. 5 mins per side with a grinder.

I don't have the front clip on yet, so I "doubly" don't have the answer on the front, other than the grinding (trimming) issue.

But I'm running 245/40's up front and 275/45's out back. On the Fleetside, I decided another inch would look better, so I bought one inch spacers. Again, I'm still in the dark on
the backspacing of the 20's and would have to measure. But if they are STANDARD in backspacing, with a 6" drop on a 1/2 ton Fleetside, that tire size in the rear works without
the spacers by about 3/8" clearance to the inside wheel well. And, it works perfectly and (to my taste) looks better with another inch in width. An added benefit is this set-up gives
more clearance to the inner wheel well. No problem with the outer fender-well clearance.

In the pics, you can see the difference with the spacer (middle pic) and without (full length shot). Remember, the truck is in the air. But I have the jack-stands under the trailing
arms to spring the load. The clearances stated are with the wheels on the ground.

If this didn't help you, at least maybe someone else can use the info. And maybe someone else can chime in on any backspacing options available from Boss 338s. On the 20's at least.

Re: Coys C5 / Boss 338 wheel question

I am nowhere even close to you guys, but .. it will be someday. I am just undecided on a semi-stock look with rallys and just bigger tires (255/70 and 235/70 now) .. or to slam it with 20's. I absolutely love the way yours sit though (both of them)

Mine is a frame off project I bought from a guy in KY. He had done all the rust repair and metal work as you see it, I have just had it long enough to start dropping the engine / trans in the frame rails. My plans are to fit / block all my metal like this and then pull it back apart after final sand. It will be painted in pieces and raptor lined / lizard skin once the weather gets a little better. I am 80% sure it will be hugger orange with a white top and white 68 style grill shell. My other options are a special mix really close to marina blue, or butternut yellow. We'll see how it goes. I hope it turns out half as good as you guys have yours.

Later.
