headlight adjusters, correct fit
Hi all,
Looking for a source for correct headlight adjusters for my 85 with 4 headlights. I have replace the broken originals with Napa replacement crap. Did not fit well and stripped when I adjusted the light positions. My GM parts guy said "not available anymore". Who has NOS for sale or the correct restoration part for my truck. Tired of the Chinese Junk!!!! Thanks.

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
I know LMC, and Dorman makes them, not sure on the quality. I need some for mine, running plow lights for the winter.

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
Even back in the 80's we did not buy those adjusters from GM, we got them from our nut and bolt suppliers in bulk. The aftermarkets we used were identical to the OE parts and a fraction of the cost. Call a local body shop and ask them who is their nut and bolt supplier and then go contact them.

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
When I changed my grill on my 85 to 91 the adjusting nuts/fastener were stripped an I spent an hour at oreillys trying to find a replacement. When I went home my buddy ( fellow square body) took one look at it and fixed it by placing a nut behind the fastener where the bolt barely poked out and tightened the nut instead of the fastener itself. It isn't OE, but it definetly did the job

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
SBTork, Thanks for the part numbers. I will order them Monday with my other part I need for 05 Sierra. I guess my my GM guy wasn't in the mood to look for them. Now all I need are GM tail lights and front turn and side markers and I will be happy.

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
i used the dorman ones on my 85, i also had the quad headlamp setup.
if you adjusters are stripping, your springs could be getting stiff or rusting together |

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
you used to be able to get them through a company called Motormite under the Help name in most auto parts stores

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
I don't have part numbers at the ready for the taillamps and side markers but I know the side markers are still avail. and the tail lamps are if you don't want the ones with the stainless trim, otherwise they're long gone....

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
i buy the crap replacements, then use my tap & die set and rethread the screw to fir a nylock nut and use a washer on the back of the core support, no more plastic stripping out.

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
Thanks again SBTork, Replaced my adjuster with the GM pieces and adjusted the headlights. What a difference, I can see now. GM adjusters fit perfectly and adjusted with out any issues. Now for Hella conversion and relay harness.

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
I am pretty sure that you can get replacement tail lamp lenses from parts source or O'Riley for like 16 bucks each (IIR they have the chrome trim too). Looking foreward to the Hella conversion, keep us posted.

Re: headlight adjusters, correct fit
The ones from napa work, you just cant have tension on the when you adjust them. I just guess where they should be, carefully put the spring on and to adjust i remove the spring and lossen or tighten them. i did them on my truck a year ago and they are still good.
